Day 32 - I AM the True Vine

Today we read the literary technique called "analogy." We read of the comparison between a vine and its branches and Jesus and His believers. We learn how believers are united to Christ, and we learn of the life-giving effect He has on the lives of believers. We also read again of a command to love one another.

We read of belief, Jesus and His relationship to the Father, and life (laying down life).

  • Reading: John 15:1-17
  • Memory passage: John 14:1-6
  • Memory passage: Matthew 28:1-10 - I am going to begin reviewing the Resurrection passage with my children. We learned the story from Matthew, but you could also work any of the other Gospels.
  • Memory verse: John 15:5
  • Song: Abide with Me
  • Activity: Today is a good day to be in the garden if you can. The weather has been so warm that we have weeds and vines coming up all over the place. I am teaching the children which are the "true" plants and vines and which ones are the weeds. A lot of times, it is hard to tell until we see the fruit. We will talk about many spiritual lessons. One will be about bearing the right fruit by abiding in Jesus. Another will be about pruning as we continue to cut back some trees and bushes.  Also, add another "I AM" to your board.
  • Meditation: This is not the first time that the subject of abiding appears in John (it is mentioned six times in this chapter alone). You may want to reread John 6:56 and 8:31 in context. We also read of the same concept in 1 John. If you have time, read the book and underline all the times the word "abide" is mentioned (16x). The word also appears in 2 John.
