And the many years turned into hundreds of years, and the great promises of God seemed to fade away (Big Picture 232) |
Scripture Readings: Psalm 46:1-11
Verse: Galatians 4:4
Christmas Song: Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence
Hymn: Speak, O Lord
The Big Picture Story Bible: Many Silent Years (229-232)
The Ology: God is Perfect (30-31)
Today will be a different day. In the midst of the craziness of preparing for Advent, take a few minutes today to remember that there were 400 years where God did not speak any words from His prophets. Four Hundred years. That is a LONG time! God's people must have had great faith to believe the promises of God when it seemed like God was silent. I am sure they kept rehearsing the promises of God in their minds over and over again. God had not forgotten them!
Instead of doing an ornament today, I will sit down with my children and explain to them that sometimes we need to sit and listen and remember. We will remember that God always keeps His promises. Even when God seems to be silent, He still keeps His promises. We will review the promises of God over and over again. Sometimes, it's ok to stop and be still and remember. Just like God's people of old, we await the fulfillment of God's good promise of Jesus' coming back again. The world may seem like it is out of control with chaos and evil. It may seem as if God is silent. But just like God's people did in the past, let's remember that He will fulfill His promises!
