Great Faithfulness: week 15

Verse: Lamentations 3:22-23
Hymn: Great is Thy Faithfulness

The attribute of God we sing of this week is faithfulness. "It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Thy faithfulness" Lamentations 3:22-23. These are wonderful verses to read to your children and to memorize. What comfort they bring to us to remember the faithfulness of our God. We can trace God's faithfulness all the way back to the very good beginning. We can see His faithfulness on every page.

This month, we celebrate the faithfulness of God in the most special way. There was a time when Adam failed in the garden for all of us. He was completely and utterly unfaithful, but this month, we  specifically remember with hope, different garden stories. This time, the second Adam, Jesus, was completely faithful in the garden of Gethsemane. He did what Adam could not do... what none of us could ever do. Jesus was faithful on His journey to the cross. Jesus was faithful to God the Father's plan to serve and to give His life a ransom. Jesus was faithful unto death. He faithfully fulfilled every prophecy. His faithfulness sent Him to the cross...but the story doesn't end there.

In another garden, we see the tomb is empty! He is faithful - He also kept His promise to rise again! This same Jesus who came to faithfully suffer, die, and be resurrected, is the same faithful King who will come again for us. We will celebrate the supper of the Lamb in the New Forever Garden.

Last year at this time, my Mom was in the hospital with pneumonia and was very sick. Those days were hard. We didn't understand what God was doing, we didn't understand why it took so long for answers, we didn't understand why she wasn't getting better ... My faith was tested in ways I never imagined it would be. But through all of that, I felt the faithfulness of God gripping me.

This year also brought difficult days. My difficulties are minuscule compared to others, but on week 6 of not leaving our house, our faith has once again been stretched. One of the reasons we sing at our house is to prepare us for times like these.  These great songs remind us that He never changes. We may have no idea when things will return to normal, but He is faithful in every season and every day.  Sing of His faithfulness this week!

    Things to think about ...
    • we all can think of times when our lives have been difficult. Even when life changes, God remains faithful. Talk to your children about how things change, but God never changes.
