Day 26: Jesus is who He says He is - the Light of the World

This baby would be like that bright star shining in the sky that night. A Light to light up the whole world. Chasing away darkness. Helping people to see. And the darker the night got, the brighter the star would shine. (BP - 190)

For years, people have feared darkness. We use fire, flashlights, and electricity just to keep darkness at bay a little bit longer.
There will come a day when there will be no more darkness or pain or crying. These things will pass away. Revelation 22:5 "And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever." When the world is filled with darkness, we have someone we can trust even when our eyes cannot see. He can see. He is the light. He is our light.

Longing for light, we wait in darkness.
Longing for truth, we turn to you.
Make us your own, your holy people,
Light for the world to see.

Refrain
Christ, be our light!
Shine out through the dark, shine! Christ, be our light!
Shine in your church gathered today.

Longing for peace, our world is troubled.

Longing for hope, many despair.
Your word alone has pow’r to save us.
Make us your living voice.

Longing for food many are hungry.

Longing for water, many still thirst.
Make us your bread, broken for others,
Shared until all are fed.

Tidings and Tidbits:

  • Take some time to read Matthew 5:14-16 and talk about how we reflect Jesus' light to the world. You could even sing "This Little Light of Mine." Even the youngest and smallest can do the motions.
