REFORMATION CHALLENGE!
Week 5 - Soli Deo Gloria
Soli Deo Gloria - Glory belongs to God alone. God’s glory is the central motivation for salvation, not improving the lives of people—though that is a wonderful by product. God is not a means to an end—he is the means, and He the end. Salvation is HIs Story, not's Mary's or any of the saints of the Catholic church. The only true Gospel is that which gives all glory to God alone! This is what the Bible teaches.

- To God be the Glory - we just sang this recently and you can go back and read about it.
- Glorious Things of Thee are Spoken - This is by one of my favorite hymn writers, John Newton. I love the text and tune (Haydn ) of this. Lots of words, but worth teaching to your children.
Take some time to look up some works of Bach this week for you and your children to listen to. He was a Lutheran and loved hearing the congregation sing. Another composer, Felix Mendelssohn, re-introduced many of Bach's works to the world much later. Felix was also a believer and actually wrote a symphony commemorating the reformation. You can listen to it here. Make sure you listen to the last movement, which has A Mighty Fortress is Our God in it.
In honor of the 500th anniversary of the reformation and the resurgence of congregational singing, my family and I are doing something special each day this month. Every evening, we are singing A Mighty Fortress is Our God (Martin Luther). It is our goal that our children (even our two year old) will be able to sing all four stanzas by Reformation Day at the end of the month. Even if you don't have children, commit to singing this text every day. It will be good for your soul. I hope you will do this challenge along with us! We will post a video of us singing together on Reformation Day. I'd loveto see our feeds full of this wonderful text! My 2, 4, and 5 year old can sing all four stanzas now, and my two year old is chiming in on the first stanza. Keep singing! Only two more days until we sing!!
Resource Corner
Here is a great book for children. It can be read a page at a time for younger children. Beautifully illustrated and written. These would make great Christmas gifts if you are looking for solid books for your family or grandchildren. John Calvin is one of the great reformers. If you haven't ever read his Institutes of the Christian Religion, you should check it out. There are also many biographies and many of his commentaries on Amazon.
