Keep in mind as we travel along in this book that the verse, paragraph, and chapter divisions are not inspired. We are breaking up our reading out of convenience and to make it easier for our children to hear the Words of God. As you read, you will notice transitional phrases (like we see today) such as "after this" which introduces a new thought in our narrative/story genre.
Even though some of these days aren't actual "stories" you may have told your children, do not shy away from reading these words to them. God's Words are our very life and can be theirs too, but they must first hear the words!
Today, the subject is Christology (or teaching about Christ). We hear from John the Baptist again and possibly the author, John (scholars are unsure who is speaking in the last few verses of this chapter). Regardless of who is speaking, we are reminded about who Christ is and what He came to do. John 3:36 "Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever doe not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him."
Reading: John 3:22-36
Memory passage: John 1:1-14
Memory verse: John 3:36
Song for the week:
Activity: We will read Psalm 1 today and review it, since it is one we have memorized. I will draw a picture of the kind of person who believes God's Word (a strong, healthy tree with lots of good fruit) and a picture of the person who does not believe God's Word (a tree, dead and fallen over)
reiterating to my children that God's Word - the Word, Jesus - brings us life!
Meditation: Psalm 1:1-6
